Active Adventures in Malta
Malta is not just a pretty face, with beaches, delightful restaurants, and centuries of history! We also appeal to adventure seekers. The Maltese islands are the most southerly European country, which makes them the ideal year-round outdoor adventure location, with lots of sun and warm seas.
For individuals or groups looking for an active way to build connections and have fun at the same time, why not incorporate an active adventure into your time in Malta? Here are just a few ideas – all of which can be adapted to both individual travellers and group or incentive trips.
Cycling
Malta is a cyclist’s paradise with a favourable year-round climate and multiple cycling routes of varying lengths, with over 1.000 kilometres (621 mi) of bike lanes. From quirky cobbled streets to breath-taking coastal roads, cyclists can work up an appetite whilst exploring historical ruins, mysterious caves and Maltese villages at any time of the year.
Gozo offers multiple off-road cycling routes, and the coast-to-coast trail is a great adventure!
Our group tours will always be supported by an experienced guide and a safety vehicle!
Rock Climbing
According to some sources, rock climbing in Malta and Gozo was started by the British RAF in the 1960's and 1970's and hence has a history of British trad rock climbing ethics! You don’t have to be an experienced climber to get a taste of adventure, as there are locations for climbers of all levels, but there are also plenty of challenging climbs for experienced adventurers. From rock scrambling and bouldering to traditional climbing, Malta has it all. From rugged coastlines, and inland valleys, to caves and ridges, climbing routes are available in Malta and Gozo.
Segway Tours
Bored of cars and busses? Get out into the fresh air and explore the island by Segway! Whether it’s sightseeing around Valletta, gliding along the Dingli Cliffs, stopping at various points of interest on the way, or a sunset tour along the splendid beaches, you can explore without breaking a sweat.
Did you know that when Dean Kamen unveiled the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT) on ABC's Good Morning America, he described the machine as "the world's first self-balancing human transporter."? It was first launched in December 2001!
Hiking
From circumnavigating the entirety of Malta’s 160km coastline to half-day clifftop trails taking in coastal Mediterranean views, Malta and Gozo offer plenty of opportunity for hikers of all abilities and ages to enjoy the countryside and explore centuries of history at the same time. Malta is a versatile destination for hikers, and Rigo Malta DMC would be delighted to help you to plan the ideal hiking adventure, along with knowledgeable guides to help you get the most out of your experience.
Sea Kayak
Explore the coastal beauty with a Sea kayaking tour, around Malta, Gozo and Comino. Tours are available to anyone over the age of 8, with basic fitness levels from March to October. With many group games and activities available, this is a fun way to get teams working together too.
Did you know that Sea kayaks have at least two sealed compartments for storage, which are filled with air to help keep the kayak afloat if you should have the misfortune to capsize.
Stand UP Paddle Boarding
Gozo, and Ghallet Marku - located along the northern coastline between Salina and Mellieha, are fantastic places for SUP adventures. A fun activity for anyone, experienced or not, and a great way to have fun with your team. Beginner-friendly tours are perfect in these crystal-clear waters.
Did you know that the modern SUP started in the early 1900s and was originally called “Beach Boy Surfing”?
All these activities are available to individual travellers, or as group activities. All you need to do is reach out to our team to discuss your upcoming group trip or holiday!
